Team
Simba Muhwati is the founding Executive Director of SquashBridge.
Simba started as the founding Executive Director for SquashBridge in September 2024. He takes the leadership role at SquashBridge after serving as Squash Director at StreetSquash, a member of the Squash and Education Alliance. For the past five years, Simba has been an integral part of StreetSquash, instilling a culture of excellence. His impact extended beyond the squash court, teaching resilience, and mental toughness, and guiding students through their middle and high school years.
During Simba’s tenure at StreetSquash, he achieved remarkable milestones, including coaching five teams to victory at the Squash & Education Alliance (SEA) Team National Championships, and making history coaching the Thurgood Marshall Academy/StreetSquash team, the first-ever all-Black team to compete at the U.S. High School Squash Nationals in 2023. Additionally, Simba launched The Squash Academy, a pay-for-play squash program open to the public, and successfully led the organization’s rebuilding efforts post-COVID
One of Simba’s students at StreetSquash, Thomas Overton III, shares his experience at the SEA Team Nationals.
Simba began his squash career at age six in his home country of Zimbabwe and moved to the United States in 2005 when he joined the Trinity College Squash team. In addition to being named captain his senior year, Simba was a Second Team All-American and won five National Collegiate Championships (four as a player, and one as an assistant coach). After graduating, he moved to Massachusetts and served as Head Squash Professional at Cross Courts Squash and Fitness Center for seven years.
Simba is heavily involved with US Squash and is a Level 3 Certified Coach, as well as a Certified Gold Tournament Director. Simba has coached the US Junior National Team in various international events and was appointed the Men's Junior National Assistant Coach. Before joining StreetSquash, Simba served as the Assistant Director of Squash at the Apawamis Club in Rye, NY.
